Farro Casareccia with Tomatoes & Pesto

For me, it’s particularly important to cook alternative grain pastas to a proper al dente. Alternative grains tend to have an unpleasant texture when overcooked.

Buckwheat Biscuits — For Man’s Best Friend

These biscuits are quite edible. (We taste tested them.) And, Portia (our whippet) gobbles them up faster than I can bake them. I’m not sure if this is a great recipe for more sedentary dogs. But, for our speedy little whippet, they’re great.

Tomatoes & Sausage

The first night tomatoes and sausage pieces find themselves spooned over a crusty roll. Garnish with pickled Italian cherry peppers and grated Parmigiano Reggiano… or not. On the second night, the remaining sauce finds itself tossed with penne and topped with more Parmigiano Reggiano.

Momofuku Milk Bar’s Compost Cookie Adaptation

I added coconut, pecans, ritz crackers and chocolate chips to my cookies. To compensate for the oily coconut, I reduced the butter by about 4-5 tablespoons. And, I think I’ll do the same next time. (Even if I choose different snacks and sweets.)

Jamaican Stew Peas

Traditionally, this recipe would include salt beef. The beef would be soaked and boiled twice before it would be added. But, I’ve substituted an equal amount of andouille sausage in its place. (Oxtail, stew beef, or smoked pig’s feet would be better substitutes. But, I didn’t have any on hand.)

Black Krim

Three Black Krim Plants = Three Tomatoes

One was claimed by the squirrels, the second (above) we picked early to save it from said squirrels, and the third is still on the vine. Will the last one survive? It’s a mystery.

After ripening […]

Missing Cape Cod

…And, beach plum jam

I could buy some. Nah, that’s too easy. I think I’ll try to devise a convoluted recipe.

This is my current plan:

I Wanna Be Beach Plum Jam

1-2 large bunches of tart grapes, halved & seeded 2-4 […]

A Rainbow of Radishes

The radishes are finally big enough to eat! We’ve seen cream, pink, red & white, deep red, and red with darker red stripes. But, they all taste the same… spicy. Not just a little bit spicy, oh no, they’re fire breathing, eye watering, mouth full of wasabi HOT. A result […]

Mr Stripey

Mr Stripey doesn’t like the heat. Last year we had over 20 huge tomatoes. This year? We’ve seen about 10 tomatoes on the same number of plants. And, several of those 10 weren’t pretty.

So, it would be a crime not to showcase the handful of gorgeous tomatoes […]

Yellow Beets… Roasted!

My beets are still growing. But, I did add two baby (golf ball sized) beets from my garden to the batch of large yellow beets I bought at the farmer’s market. Twice-cooked… well… three times if you count a quick saute with the shallots. The first time, I wrapped the […]
